Italy uses a progressive income tax system (IRPEF) with four brackets in 2025: 23% on income up to EUR 28,000, 35% up to EUR 50,000, 43% up to EUR 100,000, and 43% above EUR 100,000. Capital gains on financial instruments are taxed at 26% (12.5% for government bonds). VAT is 22% with reduced rates of 10%, 5%, and 4%. The corporate tax rate is 24% (IRES) plus regional IRAP of 3.9%.

Italy sets no statutory national minimum wage, leaving pay floors to sectoral agreements, and taxes top earners at 43% alongside heavy employer social-security contributions of 30%. The median salary is $33,000 in euros, value-added tax is 22%, and corporate profits are taxed at 24%. Municipalities add a local income tax on top of national rates. Technology leadership reaches about $114,400 for chief technology officers and $91,000 for engineering managers. Unemployment is high at 7.6%, the cost-of-living index stands at 60, and the Gini coefficient at 0.33. Employees contribute 9.2% to social insurance.
