Tech leads emerge from the senior engineer ranks, having demonstrated both technical excellence and the ability to influence and guide others. From tech lead, the career path diverges. Some move deeper into the individual contributor track as staff or principal engineers, focusing on broader technical impact without people management. Others transition into engineering management, taking on hiring, performance management, and organizational responsibilities.
