UI/UX Designer

UI/UX designers begin their careers creating visual designs and simple user flows. Junior designers work closely with senior designers and product managers, learning to conduct user research, create wireframes, and build prototypes. They develop proficiency in design tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.

Mid-level designers independently own the design for feature areas, conducting user interviews, creating journey maps, designing interactions, and working directly with engineers to implement designs. They begin contributing to design systems and establishing visual patterns.

Senior designers lead design for major product areas, mentor junior designers, and drive design quality standards. They facilitate design critiques, advocate for user needs in product discussions, and establish processes for usability testing.

Staff and principal designers lead design strategy across the organization, define the design vision, and build and maintain design systems used by dozens of teams. They work with executive leadership on brand and product strategy.

The career path can lead to Head of Design, VP of Design, or Chief Design Officer roles. Some designers specialize in areas like design systems, UX research, interaction design, or accessibility. Others transition into product management, leveraging their deep understanding of user needs.
