The total gross compensation an employee earns over a full year, usually expressed as a single lump-sum figure before deductions.
## Annual Salary
Annual salary is the yearly gross pay agreed upon in an employment contract. It is the standard way to quote compensation in most salaried positions worldwide.
### How It's Calculated
- **Monthly paid**: Annual Salary = Monthly Gross × 12 (or × 13/14 in countries with statutory extra months).
- **Biweekly paid**: Annual Salary = Biweekly Gross × 26.
- **Hourly to annual**: Annual Salary = Hourly Rate × 2,080 (40 hours × 52 weeks).
### Regional Variations
- **US/UK/Canada**: Typically quoted as annual figure, paid biweekly or monthly.
- **Germany/Austria**: Often quoted monthly, with 13th or 14th month salary (Weihnachtsgeld).
- **Philippines/Brazil**: 13th month pay is mandatory and included in annual totals.
- **Japan**: Quoted monthly with separate summer and winter bonuses.
### Example
A software engineer earning $7,500/month has an annual salary of $90,000. In Germany, the same monthly figure with a 13th month payment yields an annual salary of €97,500.
